UWA and Eckerd College Battle to 2-2 Tie

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – In a physical battle between two quality squads, the West Alabama Tigers and the Eckerd College Tritons finished with a 2-2 tie as two overtime periods weren't enough to separate the teams from one another.

"Very pleased with overall performance," said Head coach Matthew Thorne. "The boys showed good character. After a draw, everyone worked hard but a draw is like kissing your sister. It's good, but it's not great. Eckerd is a very good side."

West Alabama got on the board first as Callum Rai scored his first goal as a Tiger at the 9:18 mark courtesy of an assist from Harrison Roberts to give UWA a 1-0 lead.

However, an own goal by the Tigers at the 23:10 mark and a goal by Eckerd's Juan Tejada at 38:33 gave the Tritons a 2-1 lead going into the half.

UWA's Elias Settouf scored his first collegiate goal at 46:30 mark to tie the contest at 2-2 and would serve as the goal to get the Tigers into overtime for the first time this season.

Both teams combined for 34 fouls with Eckerd committing 18 and UWA responsible for 16 fouls. The Tritons also held an edge with shots (17) and shots on goal, seven, while the Tigers finished with 16 shots and five SOGs.

Ollie Harrison (1-0-1) came away with five saves in the contest.

UWA returns to action in a neutral sight contest against Lynn University in a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament Third Round contest. The game taking place in Huntsville, Alabama is set to start 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
