Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

UWA Outlasts Argos for Sixth Straight Victory

PENSACOLA, Fla.– Another game comes down to the wire, but the West Alabama Tigers once again find a way to prevail with a 77-75 victory over the West Florida Argonauts Thursday night in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball action in the UWF Field House.

UWA's sixth straight win improves the season record to 15-5 overall and 10-3 in the GSC. UWF falls to 8-13 and 4-9 in the conference.

"Another gutsy win. Although I don't feel like we played particularly well on the defensive end, we did score the ball well enough to win," said Head coach Allen Sharpe. "We have developed some confidence as a team in handling late game situations. Obviously, we've had quite a few thus far."

The Tigers overcame a sizable free throw discrepancy as UWF shot 24-of-35 from the line and UWA went 11-of-16.

Three guards finished in double digits led by 20 points and five assists from Josh Fleming. LaJuan Hardy added 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Darron Johnson scored 14 points and grabbed a pair of rebounds of the bench.

Tyrus Grayson saw extended minutes with every UWA forward finishing with at least four fouls and finished with a line of 10 points and nine rebounds. Despite foul trouble, DeAndre Harpe put up a season high four blocks along with seven rebounds.

Jarrett Henderson erupted for a season high 28 points to lead the Argos coupled with seven rebounds. Jon Brown added 18 points while Rashaan Benson and Henri Ventoniemi both scored 10.

The Tigers return to action Saturday against the Montevallo Falcons in Trustmark Arena in Montevallo, Alabama. Tip-off is earlier than usual and is set for 3:30 p.m.
