Tigers and Falcons Tie in GSC Match

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – A fierce battle between the University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team and the Montevallo Falcons didn't end with a decisive winner or loser as the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw Friday night at the Georgine Lemak Soccer Field in Gulf South Conference action
 
UWA moves to 5-3-1 on the season and 3-1-1 in the GSC while the unbeaten streak moves to four games. Montevallo is now 5-2-3 on the season and 3-1-1 in the league.
 
TeMia Pride scored her fifth goal of the season at the 13:05 mark with an assist from Lauren George to put the Tigers up 1-0. The goal was Pride's 44th of her career and moves her three goals away from tying Nicki Gears at 47 goals all-time.
 
Romee Contreras scored the equalizing goal at the 55:48 mark of an assist from Hannah Waki to give the 1-1 tie that held through two overtime periods.
 
The Falcons dominated in shots taken with 21 compared to six shots for UWA. Montevallo took six shots on goal while the Tigers had four SOGs.
 
Pride led West Alabama with three shots and two SOGs.
 
Jenni Aarniva (4-2-1) finished with five saves.
 
West Alabama returns to action Sunday with another road contest against Auburn Montgomery. Match time in the capital city of Alabama is set for 2:30 p.m. Game links will be available on uwaathletics.com.
