Martin’s Golden Goal Caps Tigers Comeback Win over AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team needed a late goal to force overtime and Bailee Martin sealed the win in the extra time to give the Tigers a 2-1 victory over the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks Sunday evening at AUM Soccer Complex in Gulf South Conference Action.
 
The Tigers improve to 6-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the GSC. AUM falls to 1-9-0 and 1-5-0 in the league.
 
Trailing 1-0, Martin found the back of the net for her first goal this season off an assist from Sarah Coco with just 35 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the match.
 
Then in overtime, Martin, a senior from Gadsden, Ala., put the game away with just over four minutes into extra time with assists from Aleah Headley and Lauren George to cap the comeback road victory.
 
The Warhawks did score first at the 75:24 mark with a goal from Milian Mollison and assist from Brianna Yurkovich.
 
UWA outshot AUM 29-12 and had more shots on goal 9-4. TeMia Pride and Sarah Coco both took six shots each while George and Martin took three. Pride, Coco and Martin each had two SOGs.
 
Jenni Aarniva (5-2-1) finished with three saves in the victory.
 
West Alabama will be home Friday night for a GSC match against Spring Hill College. Match time in Tiger Stadium is set for 5 p.m. Game links will be available on uwaathletics.com.
