Tigers Defeat Argos in Key GSC Match, Pride Ties All-Time Goals Record

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Tiger Stadium hosted a phenomenal Gulf South Conference soccer match Sunday between two top teams. In the end, the University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team earned a 4-3 victory over the West Florida Argonauts.

UWA improved 8-3-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the conference while riding the wave of a seven-game unbeaten streak. The Argos fall to 8-4-0 on the season and 5-3-0 in the GSC.

"Great win for our school and program," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "To take the lead early and then have to come from behind shows true character delighted for the ladies. The senior girls experience helped the young players and delighted for Brianna Forrest. Last year she was recording games after ACL surgery. Today she had the game winner with a bullet header."

TeMia Pride scored two goals in the match and is now tied at 47 career goals with Nicki Gears (2011-2014). A native of Huntsville, Alabama, the first of Pride's goals came just 37 seconds into the match to give UWA the early 1-0 lead with an assist from Sarah Coco and the second tied the match at 3-3 at 72 minutes with an assist from Anele Komani.

Trailing 1-0, UWF's Peyton Peffers netted a header with an assist from Anita Daníelsdóttir to even the score and Ashley Forbes scored unassisted to give West Florida the lead at the 38:53 mark that lasted through the half.

Lauren George scored her third goal of the weekend at the 65:50 mark with an assist from Abigail Clanton to even the score at 2-2.

However, with just a little over five minutes later with 70:14 passed Daníelsdóttir gave the Argos the lead once more with an assist from Peffers at 3-2.

After Pride's equalizing goal, Forrest scored the game winner at 79:56 off a corner kick from George to give UWA the winning 4-3 margin.

West Florida outshot the Tigers 13-12 and won shots on goal 9-6.

Pride took four shots for UWA with three SOGs to lead UWA while Komani, George and Forrest each took two shots.

West Alabama will host the final two home matches of the regular season starting Friday against Christian Brothers starting at 5 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available on uwaathletics.com.
