George Provides Lone Gone in Tigers Win over CBU

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team needed one goal Friday night and it came off the foot of Lauren George as the Tigers grabbed a 1-0 victory over Christian Brothers University in Gulf South Conference action Tiger Stadium.

UWA improves to 9-3-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the GSC. CBU falls to 8-4-1 on the season and 4-3-1 in the conference.

"I couldn't be prouder of our girls out there today. The conditions were awful, but they battled for every ball and you could see the passion within their play," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "I need to shout out the seniors for being dedicated to this team and it shows with their work ethic and experience on the field."

The reigning GSC Freshman of the week scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from seniors TeMia Pride and Bailee Martin with just over 6 minutes passed to put UWA up 1-0 which stood as the game final.

Despite the ugly rainy weather, the Tigers took 18 shots and limited the Lady Bucs to three shots. UWA also won the shot on goal battle 11-1.

Pride, last week's GSC Player of the Week, led with seven shots and three shoot on goal.

West Alabama returns to action Sunday in the final home match of the regular season against Union. Match is set for 1 p.m. start. Game links are on uwaathletics.com.
