Tigers Clinch Postseason Berth in Win over Union, Pride Tops Record Book

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team played their final home regular season contest in Tiger Stadium Sunday afternoon and closed it grand fashion with a 4-1 win over Union University in Gulf South Conference action where TeMia Pride became the all-time leader in career goals in program history.
 
UWA is now 10-3-1 on the season and 8-1-1 in the conference. With the win the Tigers have clinched a spot in the GSC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament and have pushed their unbeaten streak to nine.
 
"Pleased to qualify for the postseason and finish regular season unbeaten at home," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "TeMia Pride breaking the scoring record fabulous achievement. Aleah Headley and Anele Komani ran the show today. We will regroup train hard and focus of a great opportunity to play on the road next week."
 
Pride's goal was the ninth of the year for the senior forward and was the second goal of the day for the Tigers with an assist from Headley. It was actually Headley, also a senior, scored her second goal of the year unassisted at the 32:10 mark.
 
Komani scored her fifth goal of the season unassisted at the 57:16 mark and with 73 minutes passed another senior Megan McGettigan scored her second of the season with a second assist on the day by Headley.  
 
Iris Seamster scored the lone Union goal at the 62:32 mark with an assist from Jaya-Naomi Wilson. 
 
The Tigers outshot Union 13-1 and beat them on shots on goal 7-1. 
 
Pride led in total shots with four and in SOGs with three. 
 
Jenni Aarniva pushed her season record to 9-2-1 but didn't get the chance to register a save. 
 
West Alabama returns to action on November 1 in another huge GSC match against Lee University. Match time in Cleveland, Tennessee is set for 4 p.m. central. Game links will be available on uwaathletics.com.
