Tigers Trounce Wolves in Shutout Victory

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team set out to be aggressive from the beginning, and it showed as the Tigers gave the West Georgia Wolves everything the visitors could handle in a 3-0 shutout victory Sunday afternoon in Tiger Stadium in a Gulf South Conference contest.
 
UWA, now riding a three-game winning-streak, improves to 5-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the GSC, UWG falls to 4-4-1 and 2-2-0 in the league.
 
"Delighted with the win but not just today the response from losing the first conference game," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "Showed really character to have third clean sheet in a row. We used the energy of the whole squad today and I thought we managed it very well. Special mention must to go Anele Komani I thought was outstanding technically one of the best players I've had the pleasure to coach."
 
Komani scored her third goal of the season at the 41:52 mark on an assist from Lauren George to give UWA a 1-0 lead at the half.
 
Brianna Forrest added a goal for the Tigers, her first of the season, at the 71:47 mark off an assist from Kaylah Butterworth to put West Alabama up 2-0. TeMia Pride later shut the door with her fourth goal of the season with an assist from Aliya Seebrat to seal the 3-0 victory.
 
UWA outshot the Wolves 18-8 and beat UWG in shots on goal 14-2. Komani paced the Tigers with six shots, five of which were on goal. Pride and Butterworth each took three shots.
 
Jenni Aarviva (4-2-0) earned her second clean sheet of the weekend with two saves in the win.
 
West Alabama returns to action October 11 with a GSC match against the Montevallo Falcons. Start time in Montevallo, Alabama is set for 5 p.m. Game links will be on uwaathletics.com.
