THE SERIES
This is the eighth meeting between the Tigers and the Hawks. West Alabama leads 7-0.
 
WEST ALABAMA
West Alabama is 3-2 overall, 0-2 in the GSC after a 29-28 loss to North Greenville last week at home.
 
SHORTER
Shorter is 0-5 overall, 0-3 in league play after losing at West Georgia, 44-34, last week.
 
THE COACHES
Brett Gilliland is 40-23 in his sixth season at UWA. Zach Morrison is 0-16 in his second year as a head coach, both at Shorter.

AVERAGING 50 PLUS SINCE 2010
UWA and Shorter began the series in 2010 with the Tigers winning 37-7 at a neutral site game at Demopolis (Ala.) High School. The last six games, beginning in 2013, have all been Gulf South Conference contests. West Alabama has won the seven games by an average score of 51.4 to 15.1.

Shorter has lost 44 consecutive games coming into this week's UWA Homecoming matchup with the Tigers. The Hawks last win came at Mississippi College, 42-23, on Oct. 3, 2015.

THE DERICO CONNECTION
Shorter defensive line coach Ashton Derico played his college football on the defensive front for West Alabama. In four seasons as a Tiger, Derico played in 46 games, making 87 tackles (43 solo). He racked up 16 tackles for loss.

LAST YEAR IN ROME
Harry Satterwhite threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns in just three quarters and West Alabama rolled up 505 yards total offense on the way to a 48-17 win at Barron Stadium. Tavarius Hutchinson led UWA tacklers with seven, in addition to recording a recovered fumble and a forced fumble. Terry Samuel chipped in seven stops and returned a fumble 12 yards. Danny Rambo broke up three passes as UWA limited Shorter to just 78 yards rushing.

FAULKNER UP FRONT
Junior tackle Mike Faulkner was the top performer for the UWA offensive line in the loss to NGU last week, grading 86 percent with two knockdowns. Faulkner completed 65 of 75 assessments positively.

West Alabama and senior punter Zach Gaines leads both the nation and the GSC in average punting (48.3), net punting (46.3) and total yards punted (1,351).
 
BLANCHARD AMONG LEADERS
Tiger wideout Bayley Blanchard is tied for fourth in the league with 20 pass receptions. With 77 career catches, Blanchard is 19 yards shy of have 1,000 career receiving yards.
