LIVINGSTON, Ala. – There are not many better ways to open a season as the University of West Alabama Women's Basketball team had four Tigers score in double figures on the way to a 97-32 win over the Oakwood University Ambassadors Tuesday night in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.

UWA (1-0) finished with five players in double figures led by 20 points, eight rebounds and five steals from Tazsa Garrett-Hammett and a double-double effort from Bria Dent with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Jada Golden scored 17 points and Lauryn Lilly scored 13 points in their UWA debuts while Jala Williams added 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in her return to action.

"Thought we played with a lot of enthusiasm and energy tonight," said Head coach Rusty Cram. "Very pleased with the effort overall. We got a good look at everybody in different rotations and that will really help us as we go forward. Plenty to work on but solid effort."

The Tigers jumped out to a 23-7 lead in the first quarter and used a 22-9 run in the second period to take a 45-16 lead to the half. From there, UWA outscored the Ambassadors 27-5 in the third and 25-11 in the fourth quarter to come away with a 97-32 victory.

West Alabama finished 51.4 percent (38-of-74) from the floor to secure the win while limiting Oakwood to a 20.7 percent (12-of-58) field goal percentage including 10 percent (2-of-20) from behind the arc.

UWA dominated in the paint and outscored the visitors 56-10 as well as turned 32 turnovers by the Ambassadors to 44 points. The Tigers also won the fast break margin 32-2 and in bench points 30-13.
