Dent, Garrett-Hammett Both with Double-Doubles in 85-45 Win over SBC

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The dynamic duo of Bria Dent and Tazsa Garrett-Hammett made their presence felt for the second straight time this season as both earned double-doubles in the University of West Alabama Women's Basketball win over the Southeastern Baptist College Lady Chargers Saturday afternoon in Pruitt Hall.
 
The Tigers improved to 2-0 to open the season.
 
"We got better in places today. Still have much to work on," said Head coach Rusty Cram. "Proud of Bria and Tazsa both getting double-doubles. I also thought Lauryn (Lilly) and Genesis (Del Toro) gave us good minutes."
 
Garrett-Hammett went for 20 points and 10 rebounds while Dent finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds along with four steals.
 
Naelyn Rios scored 17 points and came up with four steals in her UWA debut. Lilly scored 13 points for the second straight game. Del Toro led with six assists and added four steals as well.
 
The Tigers jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter and won the second quarter 25-9 to take a 42-18 lead to the half. UWA came back out and won the third quarter 25-8, but SBC outscored West Alabama 19-18 in the fourth. However, UWA took the victory 85-45.
 
As a unit, UWA shot 42.5 percent (34-of-80) from the floor, 29.2 percent from the three-point line and 90.9 percent (10-of-11) from the free throw line.
 
Tyra Conerly scored 18 points and Rashida Cheddick scored 11 to lead the Lady Chargers.
 
SBC shoot 26.9 percent (14-of-52) from the floor, 40 percent (4-of-10) from behind the arc and 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the free throw line.
 
West Alabama returns to action Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a nonconference game against Shorter University in Pruitt Hall Gym. Game links will be available on uwaatletics.com.
