Tigers Handle Shorter in 6-0 Win

ROME, Ga. – The bounce back came quickly for the University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team as the Tigers trounced the Shorter University Hawks at Ben Brady Field in a 6-0 victory Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action.

UWA improves to 11-4-1 on the season and 9-2-1 in the GSC. The nine conference wins match the all-time program high set last season. Shorter falls to 2-13-1 overall and 2-8-1 in league play.

"It was a great professional performance," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "Thoughts go out to Lauren George and we hope she's able to make a speedy recovery. Delighted we got a lot of
energy today. Players like Tabitha Weldon and Megan Ongteco were coming in and making it difficult to select a team for next week."

Anele Komani was involved in five of the six West Alabama goals with an assist on both of Aleah Headley's goals, assists on goals by Megan McGettigan and Lauren George and a goal of her own.

Headley's first goal game at 14:37. TeMia Pride swiftly followed with career goal 49 at the 18:38 mark with an assist from Abigail Clanton.

McGettigan's goal, her second of the season, came with 26:21 passed with the Komani assist. Komani then scored her sixth goal of the season at 38:31 with an assist from Clanton to give UWA a 4-0 lead at the half.

George scored her sixth goal of the season at 48:15 off a Komani assist and then Headley scored her fourth goal of the season and the final of the day for the Tigers at the 72:35 mark to secure the 6-0 victory.

UWA outshot Shorter 18-1 and won in shots on goal 12-1. Komani led the way with five shots while Pride and McGettigan both had three.

Weldon (2-1-0) got the start in goal and recorded one save.

West Alabama has one more regular season match and it'll be on the road against Alabama Huntsville on November 8. Match time is set for 5:30 p.m. with game links available on uwaathletics.com.
