Bernal Advances to NCAA Meet, Tigers 13th at Regional

LAKELAND, Fla. – West Alabama's Jakob Bernal finished second individually at the 2019 NCAA South Regionals Saturday at Holloway Park, guaranteeing him a spot in the NCAA Championships Nov. 23 in Sacramento, California.

Bernal covered the 10K course in 32:21.06 to finish just behind race winner Mathew Chesum of Benedict at 31:48.83. Both Bernal and Chesum notched a 4.9K time of 15:26.45.

The West Alabama men finished 13^th as a team in the 21-team field. Alabama Huntsville won the team event by placing five runners in the top 19. Lee was second with five competitors in the top 27. Saint Leo, Embry-Riddle and Mississippi College rounded out the top five.

Audrick Pyronneau was UWA's next-best individual finisher at 44^th, followed by Laban Kitur in 74^th, Shadrack Bett in 89^th and Kyle Rock in 108^th to complete Tiger scoring runners. Daniel Tully was 112^th and Max Valdez 123^rd in the 147-runnner field.
