Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Offense Flows in 100-48 win Over Tougaloo

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Six players finished in double figures and two more finished just outside double-digits as the University of West Alabama Women's Basketball team collected a 100-48 win over the Tougaloo College Lady Bulldogs Monday night in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.

UWA improved to 4-2 overall and ended a two-game slide and reached the 100-point mark for the first time since Nov. 14, 2017 against Oakwood. TC falls to 3-8 on the season.

"We've had five games entering tonight and have given each player an opportunity to earn their role," said Head coach Rusty Cram. "When you have as many new players as we do, each player has to learn, and we believe we've figured out the rotation and are going with the best players on the court."

Bria Dent posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Zoe Watts also posted 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double of her own while also adding six blocks.

Jada Golden finished with 12 points and seven assists; Jala Williams went for 12 points, five rebounds and three assists; Lauryn Lilly scored 12 points and added six rebounds and Tazsa Garrett-Hammett wrapped the double-digit scorers with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Naelyn Rios, who earned her first start at point guard, and Miya Kimber both scored eight while Genesis Del Toro dished seven assists.

As a unit, the Tigers shot 52.1 percent (37-of-71) from the floor, 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from the three and showed a marked improvement from free throw line going 73.3 percent (22-of-30).

"We came back from the break and ran what seemed like miles for the missed free throws. You better believe it was a point of emphasis," said Cram.

UWA also emphasized playing in transition and it paid off as the Tigers won in the break 30-13 and also won points in the paint 54-10.

West Alabama won the first quarter 26-11 and the second quarter 25-14 to take a 51-25 lead to the halftime locker room. From there, UWA won the third period 24-12 and the fourth 25-11 for the 100-48 final.

Jelisa Smith scored 15 to lead the Lady Bulldogs while Amari Pittman put up 10 points and seven rebounds.

Tougaloo went 24.3 percent (17-of-70) from the field, 24.1 percent (7-of-29) from beyond the arc and posted a 50 percent (7-of-14) effort from the free throw line.

The Tigers return to action Thursday with a round contest against Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. central with game links available on uwaathletics.com.
