Tigers Sweep Texas Trip With Win over Ouachita Baptist

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas – West Alabama's men's tennis team ended its three-day road swing to Texas on Sunday by defeating Ouachita Baptist, 4-0.

The win gives the Tigers four straight victories to open the regular season, five straight including an exhibition win at Alabama State. Ouachita State dropped to 3-1.

"Today was a great end to a great trip, with a win over a team that I expect to see in the national rankings this year," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Today was our best showing of the right preparation pre-match, attitude on court and support of teammates."

The Tigers won the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and 3. Henrik Sinkko and Ilia Dehoduik beat Juan Moncada and Francisco Oliveira, 6-2, at N0. 2. Erik Nordblom and Ilari Vesanen defeated Dan Kaplon and Santiago Kearney, 7-5, at No. 3.

Only three singles matches were finished. Julius Kaverinen defeated Moncado 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 and Dehoduik downed Kearney at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0. Linus Holthey won at No. 4, beating Kaplon 7-6, 6-3.
