UWA Women Lose to No. 17 Florida Southern

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Florida Southern took the doubles point and three of four finished singles matches to claim a 4-1 women's college tennis victory over West Alabama Sunday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of West Florida.
 
Ranked 17th nationally and sixth in the South Region, Florida South improved to 3-0. West Alabama, ranked 10th in the region, dropped to 1-2.
 
The day began well for the Tigers, with Georgina Salom and Andrea Tomassone winning, 6-1, in No. 1 doubles, but the Moccasins took Courts 2 and 3 to claim the doubles point.
 
West Alabama's lone singles win came from Haina Franco defeating Minnie Kim 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. FSC won at No. 1, 4 and 6. Singles matches 2 and 5 were unfinished.
 
The Tigers host third-ranked Columbus State (2-2) Saturday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. Admission is free.
