Tournament Berth Comes Down to Final Regular Season Game

A berth in the Gulf South Conference women's basketball tournament is West Alabama's for the taking when the Tigers close the regular season Thursday at Mississippi College.

Seven spots in the eight-team field have already been earned. The final position will either go to West Alabama or Montevallo, depending on Thursday night outcomes.

A West Alabama win and the Tigers are in. No ifs, ands or buts. UWA holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Lady Falcons by winning both games between the two this season.

UWA (11-16, 8-11) could lose at Mississippi College (7-18, 3-16) and still earn a tournament berth should Montevallo (12-15, 8-11) lose at home to Delta State (17-9, 12-7). A West Alabama loss and a Montevallo win would end the Tigers' season.

Thursday's game is the second meeting between West Alabama and Mississippi College this season. The Tigers defeated the Lady Choctaws, 80-69, Dec. 1 in Livingston.
