MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The West Alabama women's tennis team made short work of NCAA Division I opponent Alabama State on Monday, handing the defending Southwestern Athletic Conference champions a 6-1 defeat in an exhibition match at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
 
The Tigers took the doubles point with Georgina Salom and Andrea Tomassone defeating Worthy Goldman and Chloe Kabamba 6-0 at No. 1, followed by Haina Franco and Sarah Manseri taking care of Reka Szentes and Urska Velec, 6-2, at No. 2.
 
Tiger singles victories came from Daryna Hukasian defeating Kabamba 7-5, 6-1 at N0. 1, Franco defeating Lea Krajcovicova 3-6, 6-1, 12-10 at No. 3, Salom beating Gabriela Lackova 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, Tomassone downed Velec 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and at No. 6 Liliana Araucz defeated Goldman 7-6, 5-7, 10-7.
 
"A really good day for us, beating a defending Division I conference champion," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Getting to play these exhibitions against Division I opponents and having success is a positive sign for us moving forward."
 
West Alabama gets a day to rest before hosting Central Alabama at the Vaughan Tennis Complex adjacent to the UWA Student Union Building on Wednesday. First serve is 4:30 p.m.  There is no admission charge.
