Tiger Men Slam Montevallo, 7-0

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – After taking the doubles point with a hard-fought match at No.1, 23rd-ranked West Alabama went on to cruise past Montevallo, 7-0, in Gulf South Conference men's tennis Tuesday at the Tennis Court Complex.

The Tigers improve to 7-2 overall, 2-1 in GSC play. Montevallo dropped to 3-2 and 1-1.

After splitting the doubles matches at 2 and 3, Julius Kaverinen and Linus Holthey outdueled James Bloomer and Peter Dahlin, 7-5, at No. 1 to claim the point for the Tigers.

"This was a strong match against a very tough team," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Winning the doubles point gave us momentum going into the singles."

The Tigers went on to sweep all six singles courts to ice the match away. Ilari Vesanen, Ilia Dehoduik, Erik Nordblom and Holthey all won singles matches in straight sets.

Both the Tigers and Falcons remain in GSC play on Saturday. West Alabama is host to Delta State at 2 p.m. Montevallo travels to Shorter.
