LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama remained unbeaten in Gulf South Conference women's tennis play by defeating Montevallo, 7-0, Wednesday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
West Alabama evened its overall record at 4-4 and improved to 3-0 in league play. Montevallo dropped to 4-2 and 2-1.
"This is a good win over a very talented team that went 21-3 last year including a dominant win over us and was 4-1 coming into our match," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We spoke before warm up about continuing to do things the right way at all times and our goal of winning conference. The women impressed me today."
The Tigers got off on the right foot by winning the doubles points with victories from Sarah Manseri and Liliana Araucz at No. 2 and Haina Franco and Daryna Hukasian at No. 3.
The Tigers wept the six singles matches with five Tigers winning in straight sets. Only the match at No. 1 went to a tiebreak.
West Alabama remains in GSC play by hosting Delta State Saturday at 2 p.m. Montevallo is at Shorter Saturday.
