Tiger Women Still Unbeaten in GSC

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama ran its Gulf South Conference women's tennis record to a perfect 4-0 by blowing out Delta State, 7-0, Saturday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
The Tigers are 5-4 overall and winners of four of the last five matches. Delta State is 2-9 and 1-2.
 
The Tigers clinched the doubles point on Courts 3 and 2, respectively, leaving no need to finish the match at No. 1.
 
Georgina Salom clinched the match for the Tigers with a win at No. 4 singles by defeating Ione' Deroode 6-0, 6-1. The Tigers won five of six single matches in straight sets, with only Daryna Hukasian being taken to a tiebreak by Fabiola Cardenas before Hukasian eventually won 7-6, 5-7, 10-7.
 
"The women came out and took care of business," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Up next is a first-year program that is on fire, so it is another battle on deck for the ladies."
 
West Alabama is host to Southern Arkansas on Monday. SAU brings a 14-3 record to the Vaughan Tennis Complex. Admission is free for the match.
