No. 14 UWA Downs Northeastern State, 5-2

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Alabama women's tennis team celebrated moving from being unranked to No. 14 in the nation by defeating Northeastern State, 5-2, Wednesday at the Carson Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of West Florida.
 
The Tigers won their fourth consecutive match and improved to 7-4. Northeastern State dropped to-2-6 after falling out of the national rankings on Wednesday.
 
The 5-2 victory snapped a streak of three consecutive 7-0 wins by West Alabama.
 
UWA got started on the right foot by winning the doubles point with wins from Sarah Manseri and Liliana Araucz at No. 2, as well as Daryna Hukasian and Haina Franco at No. 3.
 
The Tigers then took four of six singles matches to put the match away. Franco, Georgina Salom, Andrea Tomassone and Araucz won at singles 4 through 6 after NSU took the No. 1 and 2 singles courts.
 
The Tigers remain in Pensacola to meet No. 35 St. Mary's (Texas) on Friday. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
