Tigers Win for Seventh Time in Eight Outings

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 14th-ranked West Alabama women's tennis team won for the seventh time in its last eight outings, defeating No. 35 St. Mary's of Texas, 6-1, Friday at the Carson Tennis Complex on the University of West Florida campus.
 
UWA's fifth straight win improved the Tigers record to 8-4. St. Mary's dropped to 7-4.
 
"This is a good win against a very tough team," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "The ladies are playing well right now. I am pleased with the way we are playing and doing the things we need to do to reach our goals."
 
The Tigers clinched the match with Sarah Manseri's 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. UWA won five of six singles matches after claiming the doubles points by sweeping all three matches. 

Franco and Araucz started singles with wins at No. 3 and 6 before St. Mary's won its only singles match at No. 1. Georgina Salom and Andrea Tomassone closed out the day with wins at No. 4 and 5 singles.
 
The Tigers travel to Valdosta State on March 30 and will stay in Valdosta, Georgia to play No. 47 Embry-Riddle on March 31. St. Mary's plays West Florida Saturday.
