VSU Upsets No. 15 UWA

VALDOSTA, Ga. – No. 39 Valdosta State controlled the doubles courts and then went on to win four of six in singles to notch a 5-2 upset of 15th-ranked West Alabama in Gulf South Conference men's tennis Saturday at the VSU Tennis Courts.
 
The win improved Valdosta State to 7-3 overall, 5-0 in GSC play. West Alabama dropped to 10-4 and 3-2.
 
Winners at No. 1 and 2 doubles in fairly short order, the Blazers clinched the match when Florian Simbozel defeated Ilari Vesanen 6-3, 6-4 at No., 2 doubles.
 
West Alabama's wins were at No. 4 singles where Linus Holthey defeated Xavi Pineda 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 and No. 6 singles 7-6(3), 6-2 victory over Robert Cizek.
 
West Alabama remains in Valdosta to face No. 50 Embry-Riddle on Sunday at 9 a.m.
