Tigers Swept in GSC Doubleheader at UWG

CARROLLTON, Ga.– It was a cold day at University Softball Field, but the West Georgia Wolves used hot timely hitting to dispel of the West Alabama Tigers Monday in Gulf South Conference South action.
 
Nicole Buccieri got the Tigers on the board in the third with an RBI single to left field which brought in Kacy Noland and Kendall Johnson. Kierra Hague followed with a single up the middle to bring in Shay Shepherd, who was pinch running for Buccieri, and give UWA a 3-0 lead.
 
West Georgia responded with 12 runs in the third to take a 12-3 lead after three innings. 
 
However, the Tigers didn't go quietly as Alli Craft blasted a three-run homer to right field to bring in Buccieri and Noland to cut the lead to 12-6.
 
Craft came back in the sixth with a two RBI double to right field to cut the lead to 12-8, but the Tiger rally ended there.
 
Carleigh Mills (2-1) started the contest suffered her first loss of the season with four hits and five earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched. Kat Burks gave up a run with batter faced and Kacy Noland struggled in relief with five hits and four earned runs surrendered in two-thirds of an inning. Kamree Lay went three innings and allowed three hits.
 
Craft finished the day with 5 RBIs, two doubles and her second home run of the season.
 
The Wolves struck early in the second game with four runs scored in the bottom of the first and then added another run in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
 
West Georgia scored three more runs with two coming off a homer from Mallory Walker to end the game in five innings with an 8-0 win.
 
Nora Keehn (5-4) took the loss after pitching 0.2 innings with five hits and four runs allowed. Mills returned in relief and pitched four innings with three strikeouts, but eight hits and four runs allowed.
 
West Alabama returns to action March 8 at 6 p.m. to start a GSC series with the Montevallo Falcons.
