AUM Upsets No. 15 UWA

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – With the match hanging in the balance, Giovanni Bellio defeated Erik Nordblom at No. 6 singles to clinch a victory for No. 29 Auburn-Montgomery over 15th-ranked West Alabama Saturday at the AUM Tennis Complex.
 
West Alabama won the doubles point with Linus Holthey and Julius Kaverinen winning at No. 1, while Henrik Sinkko and Ilari Vesanen won at No. 2.
 
After Ilia Dehoduik defeated Francisco Jimenez 6-4, 7-6 to take No. 3 singles, the match was tied at 3-3. Bellio then clinched the AUM win by handling Nordblom 6-1, 6-4.
 
West Alabama dropped to 14-5 overall ad 6-3 in GSC play. AUM is 12-6 and 7-2.
 
"This was a disappointing loss to a very tough team," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said.
 
The Tigers close the regular season at Alabama Huntsville (8-9, 2-7) Thursday. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
 
The field of eight is full for the GSC Championships, but seedings are yet to be determined.
