No. 12 UWA Stretches Win Streak to 11

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 12th-ranked University of West Alabama women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to 11 matches and remained perfect in Gulf South Conference play by taking care of Auburn-Montgomery, 5-2, Saturday at the AUM Tennis Complex.
 
West Alabama is 14-4 overall, 9-0 in conference play. AUM is 8-12 and 6-4.
 
After taking the doubles point, West Alabama took three straight singles courts for clinch the overall match. Both of AUM's victories were after the match had been decided.
 
Haina Franco ad Daryna Hukasian won at Doubles No. 3 before Georgina Salom and Andrea Tomassone clinched the point at No. 1.
 
Singles wins by Tomassone at No. 5, Franco at No. 3 and Sarah Manseri at No. 4 clinched the overall match for the Tigers. Salom also won at singles No. 4. AUM managed to win singles No. 1 and 6.
 
"The women continue to take care of business," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We have a short turn around to get home and get some rest and be up early for the rain make up against UAH."
 
The Tigers host Alabama Huntsville Sunday at 10 a.m. in the final match of the season at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. The women close the regular season at West Georgia on Tuesday.
 
UWA is one of five teams to have already earned a berth in the GSC Championship Tournament. No seeds have been determined with West Florida and Mississippi College both within striking distance of the Tigers, who have already beaten both.
