Tigers Fall to #2 UWF in Softball Action

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Alabama Softball team will have to wonder what could have been as not much separated the Tigers and the #2 West Florida Argonauts in a 3-0 loss Friday evening at the UWF Softball Complex in Gulf South Conference action.

UWA falls to 28-19 on the season and 15-11 in the GSC. UWF improves to 41-8 and 23-4 in the conference.

Missed opportunities plagued the Tigers in this one as UWA had runners thrown out at second, third and home or different occasions throughout the contest to negate scoring opportunities.

The Tigers put up five hits during the contest and left three on base while West Florida put up six hits with seven left on during the game.

Courtney McLellan blasted a solo homer over right field to give UWF the lead in the bottom of the second. Rachel Wright followed with an RBI single to put the Argos up 2-0.

UWF added to the lead in the fifth with an RBI single by Kathleen Smiley to score Teala Howard from second to go up 3-0 which held as the final.

Kacy Noland led the Tigers at the plate with 2-for-3 hitting on the day.

Nora Keehn (15-8) started the game and went 4.1 innings with three strikeouts but allowed six hits, a rare walk and two earned runs. Carleigh Mills pitched in relief going 1.1 innings with a strikeout.

West Alabama and West Florida will end the regular season Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at the UWF Softball Complex. Game links are available on uwaathletics.com.
