Tigers Grab Walk Off Victory over #7 UAH

LIVINGSTON, Ala.- The West Alabama Softball team rose to the occasion one more time against the #7 Alabama-Huntsville Chargers in walk-off fashion to come away with a thrilling 7-6 victory Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference softball action in the UWA Softball Complex.

UWA improves to 22-17 overall, 11-9 in the GSC and has defeated the Chargers twice in a season for the first time since 1997. UAH fell to 31-11 on the season and 15-6 in league play.

Nicole Buccieri scored the first RBI of the contest in the bottom of the third with a single through the shortstop to bring in Kierra Hague. A pair of errors on a sacrifice bunt by Chrissy Tubbs allowed Lee Lee Parker and Shay Shepherd to score. Tubbs then scored after stealing third and forcing a throwing by the catcher and coming in to score. Olivia Dunlap hit a single to right and Kendall Johnson came in from second. Kacy Noland singled to right to being in Dunlap from second base.

UAH got on the board in the fifth with an infield hit from Shannon Long and another infield RBI by Shelby Booker. Alaina Hampton then hit a two-run homer to straight away center to cut the lead to 6-4 for UWA.

Mackenzie Nutt tied the game with a two-RBI single to center that fell just short of Dunlap's glove to tie the game at 6-6.

Kailey Hunt came through with the game winning sacrifice fly to right and Paige Dill tagged from the third and slid in to clinch the 7-6 victory.

Carleigh Mills (4-2) earned the win with one inning of work and only a hit allowed. Nora Keehn pitched six innings with a strikeout as well as seven hits and six runs allowed.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, April 13 in a GSC doubleheader against Delta State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. in Cleveland, Mississippi.
