Early Runs Lift Tigers to GSC Tournament Victory

PENSACOLA, Fla.Nicole Buccieri knocked in two RBIs in the first inning and Nora Keehn handled the rest in the circle as the #5 Seed West Alabama Tigers defeated the #4 Seed Valdosta State Blazers 2-1 in the opening day of the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament Thursday evening at the University of West Florida Softball Complex.

Buccieri's winning RBIs came off a single up the middle off of Kasie Johnson (14-6) to bring in Kierra Hague and Chrissy Tubbs to put UWA up 2-0.

The Blazers scored their lone run in the third when Logan Hill smacked a double to down the left field line to bring in Kiley Robb who was on base courtesy of an error. However, that would be all the VSU scoring in the contest as they stranded four runners on base compared to five left on by the Tigers.

Nora Keehn (16-9) scattered five hits while striking out three batters en route to a no earned run allowed outing.

West Alabama is scheduled to take the field around 5:30 p.m. tomorrow against the winner of West Florida and Delta State's matchup tonight. Valdosta State will face the loser of that same game in an elimination contest at 12:30 p.m.
