Tigers Fall in Home Opener to Augusta, 3-1

LIVINGSTON, Ala.– The University of West Alabama Volleyball team finally had its first match after two long road trips; however, it wasn't as pleasant as the squad hoped as the Augusta Jaguars claimed a four-set victory on the first day of the West Alabama Tournament Friday night in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.

"It was good to get our first home match jitters out of the way, and we are looking forward to two more chances to defend our home court tomorrow," said Head coach Hilary Lobenstein. "We are still working to play our game consistently."

The Jags won the first set 25-18. UWA took advantage of AU mistakes to win 25-23 in the second set, but Augusta took the final two games 25-14 and 25-18 to spoil the night for the Tigers.

Taylor Donato led with her fourth straight double-double going for 15 kills and 13 digs. Grace Harris turned in a double-double of her own with 27 assists and 11 digs. Rebecca Johnson led all Tigers with 23 digs.

Three Jaguars finished with double-digit kills led by 18 from Kylie Martin, 14 kills from Madison Malloch and Jessica Hedrick notched 10.

West Alabama (3-7) has the early game on the second day of the tournament, taking on Southern Arkansas at 9 a.m. UWA will later play Montevallo in a non-conference match to end the tournament at 4:30 p.m. Links to live video and live stats for both contests will be available on uwaathletics.com.
