Tigers Fall in GSC Opener to MC

CLINTON, Miss.– The University of West Alabama Volleyball team didn't have the Gulf South Conference opener as hoped and suffered a loss to the Mississippi College Choctaws in straight sets in the A.E. Wood Coliseum.
 
UWA falls to 5-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference. MC improves to 4-8 and start league play 1-0.
 
The Choctaws won the first set 25-23 and both the second and third sets with a score of 25-20 each.
 
Taylor Donato once again led the team in kills as the GSC leader in the category posted 13 in the win and added nine digs. Jessica Akiona and Lindsey Heller both added six kills. Grace Harris passed 21 assists and added seven digs. 
 
The reigning GSC Defensive Player of the Week Rebecca Johnson led with 22 digs with Akiona adding 18.
 
Kendall Platt led MC with 12 kills and registered 11 digs for a double-double.
 
The Tigers return to action Friday, once more on the road against Auburn Montgomery. Start time for that one in Montgomery, Alabama is set for 6 p.m. Game links will be available on uwaathletics.com.
