Pride Scores Two, Tigers Beat Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The reigning Co-Gulf South Conference Player of the Year picked right up where she left off last season as TeMia Pride scored two of the West Alabama Women's Soccer team's three goals to grab a 3-2 win over the Tampa Spartans to open the 2019 season.

Pride scored her first goal 14 minutes into the match off an assist from Abigail Clanton and the second came 71 minutes through the contest with an assist from Bailee Martin

Sandwiched between those goals were a score by Anele Komani that ricocheted off of the cross bar and the back of Tampa's goalie Megan Bromwell at the 23:23 mark in the first period.

"Outstanding performance by the players. I thought we really stuck to our game plan and addressed it very well," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "We looked to be clinical. Fantastic. Really pleased with the girls. I thought the seniors were fantastic."

Moeko Morse and Libby Wissman scored the two goals for Tampa (0-2).

Pride led with six shots with five on goal, Komani took two shots while Lauren George and Clanton each took a shot a piece.

UWA took 12 total shots with eight on goal while UT took 15 total shots.

Tabitha Weldon (1-0) registered four saves in the victory against six shots on goal from Tampa.

West Alabama returns to action Sunday at 11 a.m. CDT against Saint Leo (1-0) in Saint Leo, Florida.
