16th-Ranked Tigers Handle UTT, 5-2

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 16th-ranked West Alabama men's tennis team got back on the winning track Saturday by scoring a 5-2 victory over the University of Texas at Tyler at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
"We had some battles but came out with a team win," head coach Jeff Beaman said.  "As a young team we will continue to develop experience."
 
West Alabama improved its record to 4-2 with the victory over the Patriots. UT Tyler is 1-5.
 
The Tigers got off on the right foot  by taking the doubles point with wins by Christopher Bulus and Ilari Vesanen at No. 1 and Patricio Nieto Corral and Ilia Dehoduik at No. 3.
 
Vesanen, Dehoduik, Nieto Corral and Anton Lof all took their singles matches to put the Tigers over the top. UTT managed singles wins at No. 1 and 5.
 
The Tigers travel to second-ranked Columbus State on Wednesday, marking the second match against a top three team in the nation in six days. The Cougars are 2-0 on the young season and have yet to lose a set.
