Tigers Sweep Lee in GSC Tennis

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama swept Lee University in men's and women's tennis in Gulf South Conference matches Saturday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
The 16th-ranked Tiger men swept the Flames, 7-0, while UWA's 24th-ranked women hung on for a 4-3 victory over the Lady Flames.
 
The UWA men are 5-3 overall, 1-1 in GSC play. Lee is 3-4 and 1-2. The Tiger women are 3-3 overall, 2-1 in league matches. 
 
The West Alabama men were unscathed through singles play, winning four of six in straight sets. After wins at No. 1 and 2 in doubles, the No. 3 match was left unfinished.
 
After taking the doubles point, UWA split with Lee on the singles courts. Valeria Arevalo, Hardija Vidnere and Morgan Bishop won in straight sets at No. 4,  5 and 6, respectively, to hand the Tigers the victory.

"The men put in a solid performance against a very good opponent, a lot of close matches," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Christopher Bulus is starting to gain self confidence on court and trust his weapons and played singles at a different level today. The women had a battle and came back from 1-3 for a close win against a tough team."

The UWA women are host to West Georgia Sunday at 1 p.m. The men play next against Azusa Pacific Thursday in a neutral site match in Columbus, Georgia.
