Tigers Improve to 2-0 at St. Mary’s

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas – No. 16 West Alabama spotted St. Mary's (Texas) the doubles point then rallied to win five of six in singles to defeat the Rattlers, 5-2, in men's college tennis Friday at the Midlothian (Texas) High School Courts.

West Alabama improved to 2-0, while St. Mary's is 0-1.
 
"This was a big win for the guys against a team that has had our number the past two years," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "It honestly could have been a 5-2 loss, but we had some guys who competed very well."
 
After losing at No. 1 and 2 doubles, the Tigers only loss in singles was on Court 3. Anton Lof and Patricio Nieto Corra won at No. 3 doubles, defeating Alex Gee and Leon Hein, 6-3.
 
Christopher Bulus, Ilari Vesanen, Corra, Lof and Nuutti Jokinen were victorious in singles play. All but Lof went three sets for their wins.
 
West Alabama plays the second of three matches in the Lone Star State on Saturday, facing 13th-ranked St. Edwards at 1 p.m. at Midlothian.
