UAH Hangs on for 15-12 Win Over Tigers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville combined for 30 hits and 27 runs as the Chargers came from behind to notch a 15-12 Gulf South Conference baseball win over the Tigers Sunday at Charger Park.
 
The win ensured a sweep for the Chargers, who improve to 12-5 overall, 7-2 in league play. West Alabama is 6-10 and 1-8.
 
West Alabama jumped to a 5-0 lead after five innings and led 6-4 going into the bottom of the seventh before Alabama Huntsville scored all of its 15 runs on 14 hits in sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The Chargers scored eight runs in the eighth and West Alabama put up a six spot in the ninth.
 
John Trousdale had three hits, including a pair of home runs, to drive in eight runs for UAH. He blasted a three-run shot over the wall in right field in the sixth and then a grand slam over the fence in left in the eighth. Trousdale's homers were his third and fourth of the season and gave him three in the series against UWA.
 
Colin Brewer hit his third homer and Tyler McCown his second, while McCown also tripled in the game. Zach Duvall went 4-for-5 for the Chargers. 
 
Keegan Morrow had three of UWA's 15 hits. Ryan Dell, Taylor Clemmons, Trevor Smeeton and Trenton Lee chipped in two hits each.
 
Parker Warren (2-0) earned the pitching win for UAH in relief despite allowing four runs in three hits in two innings of work. UWA reliever Colin Chamblin (0-2) absorbed the loss, allowing three runs and three hits in one-third innings.
 
West Alabama does not have a midweek game this week and is host to Spring Hill in a doubleheader Saturday at Tartt Field in a hiatus from GSC play. Alabama Huntsville is host to Miles on Tuesday.
