UAH defeats the Tigers 6-4, Sweep Series

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Another strong start from the Alabama Huntsville Chargers led to the University of West Alabama softball team falling short in a come from behind effort 6-4 Sunday afternoon at Charger Park in Gulf South Conference action.
 
UWA fell to 5-13 on the season and 2-7 in GSC action. UAH improved to 12-6 and 7-2 in league play.
 
Trailing 4-0, Kylie Martin started the comeback effort in the second inning with a two-run homer (1) to left field, which brought in Alli Craft, to bring the Tigers within two runs.
 
After the Chargers added another run to go up 5-2 in the bottom of the second, UWA battled back once more with an RBI single by Nicole Buccieri to bring in Cassie Matlock in the third. 
 
Then in the sixth, Hayes Fulford brought the team with one with an RBI single to left where Lexy House scored to bring the score to 5-4 in favor of the Chargers. 
 
However, Alabama Huntsville tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to the 6-4 final score. 
 
Caleigh Wallace (2-6) received the loss with 0.2 innings pitched, four hits, a walk and four earned runs allowed. Kamree Lay went the rest of the way with three strikeouts, seven hits, four walks and two earned runs allowed in 5.1 innings of work. 
 
Buccieri finished the day as the batting leader for the Tigers as she went 2-for-3 with the RBI. House stolen her second base of the season and scored her third run of the year.
 
West Alabama returns to action Tuesday against Judson College at the UWA Softball Complex. First pitch in Livingston, Alabama is set for 4 p.m. Links to live stats and live video are available on uwaathletics.com.
