VALDOSTA, Ga. – The West Alabama volleyball team heads to Georgia this week for a two-match Gulf South Conference swing, as the Tigers face Valdosta State on Friday at 5 p.m. CT/6 p.m. ET and West Georgia on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET.
Friday night's match will be inside The Complex on the campus of Valdosta State University and will be streamed live with live stats on the Blazer website. Saturday's match will be on West Georgia's home court inside The Coliseum, with live stats and video on the UWG website.
West Alabama is coming off its first win of the season after defeating conference-rival Christian Brothers University last Friday. UWA is 1-12 on the year with a 1-6 record in the GSC.
Nathalia Medeiros paces the Tiger offense with 2.72 kills per set as UWA hits .123 as a team. Defensively, Madison Fisher and Heloisa Niespodzinski have 85 digs on the season, with Fisher averaging 1.93 per set and Niespodzinski averaging 1.80 per set. Amelia Johnigan leads the team in blocks with 21.0 this season and 0.49 per set.
Valdosta is 9-11 overall and 2-5 in the GSC. VSU fell in four sets to Lee University Tuesday evening and is looking to stop their two-game losing streak. Freshman Jojo Smith is averaging over 3.81 kills per set to lead the team.
West Georgia is 9-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The Wolves are entering Saturday's competition after falling 3-1 to Shorter University Tuesday evening. Tierra White leads UWG offensively with 2.80 kills per set and in digs with 0.83 per set. Autumn Mayes leads the team in digs with 238 on the season and 3.72 per set.
The Tigers are 22-27 against Valdosta and 32-17 against West Georgia.
