First Half Leads Lee to Victory over Women’s Soccer in GSC Matchup

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Lee University had a big first half, scoring four goals and taking a total of 14 shots to defeat West Alabama 6-1 Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

UWA dropped to 7-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in GSC play. The Flames improved to 14-0 on the season and are now 11-0 in GSC play, ranking them first in the conference to claim the GSC Regular Season Champions. 

Lee University jumped to a 1-0 start at the 1:45 mark when Flames' forward Alexis Hale scored the first goal of the match. 

In the 13th minute forward Riley Henry scored again for the Flames to improve the lead to 2-0.

Lee scored two more goals in the first half, one in the 34th minute and one in the 36th minute, to give the Flames a 4-0 advantage over the Tigers.

Anele Komani scored the lone goal for the Tigers in the 37th minute off an assist from Lucy Critchell and Kya Davis to close out the first half and cut Lee's lead 4-1.

It was a defensive battle for the remainder of the match, but Lee got the advantage and scored two more goals in the second half to close out the match, 6-1.

UWA took five shots. Komani contributed three shots, while Kaylah Butterworth added two. The Flames held the edge on the Tigers, 14-5, and won the shots on goal battle 11-3. 

The Tigers' goalie Tabitha Weldon recorded five saves as she faced 14 shots in her 90 minutes of action. 

Jacqueline Burns was the Flames' goalkeeper. Burns played the full 90 minutes and allowed one goal and recorded two saves in the victory.

There was one yellow card called and 22 fouls called in the matchup. The Flames were called for 14, while the Tigers were called for eight.

The Tigers return to Tiger Stadium and battle Shorter University Sunday, Oct. 31 for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
