Men's Soccer Shuts Out Christian Brothers

Memphis, Tenn - The West Alabama men's soccer team defeated Chrisitan Brothers 4-0 Friday night at Signaigo Field.

 

With the win, the Tigers improved to 4-5 overall and are now 2-2 in GSC play. The Bucs dropped to 6-4-1 overall and are 2-3-1 in the conference.

 

UWA's first goal came in the 4th minute when Peter Oyetunji scored off an assist from Killian Griffin, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead over the Bucs. 

 

West Alabama had another scoring opportunity right before the half due to a yellow card given to CBU Wayne Davis. 

 

The Tigers used the penalty kick to their advantage when Vince Stans kicked it right past the Bucs goalie, giving UWA a 2-0 advantage going into the half. 

 

West Alabama kept firing shots and scored two more goals in the second half. The third goal came at the 56:16 mark from Reda Ikarrain off an assist from Maxime Correia. The last goal of the match was scored by Vince Stans, making that his second goal of the night, fourth goal of the season.

 

The Tigers' goalie Harry Deveney recorded three saves in the victory as he faced 11 shots in the 90 minutes of action. 

 

The Bucs' goalkeeper Wayne Davis allowed four goals and recorded two saves as he faced six shots in the 90 minutes of action.

 

CBU outshot UWA by five. The Bucs took 11 shots, three being on target. The Tigers took six shots, five being on target. 

 

Three yellow cards and 32 fouls were called in the physical contest. Christian Brothers was called for 19, while West Alabama was called for 13.

 

The Tigers continue GSC play Sunday against Union. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in Jackson, Tennessee.
