Volleyball Travels to Montevallo and UAH

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama volleyball team will close out the 2021 season with back-to-back matches on the road against the University of Montevallo and the University of Alabama in Huntsville this weekend.

The Tigers will first face the Falcons on Friday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. inside the Trustmark Arena located on the campus of Montevallo. Live stats and live stream will be available on the Montevallo athletic website.

After the match on Friday, UWA will travel to Huntsville, Ala., to take on the Chargers on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. The competition inside Spragins Hall will be streamed live with live stats on the UAH athletic website.

West Alabama is 1-21 on the season and 1-12 in conference play, entering this weekend. Junior Nathalia Medeiros heads the Tiger offense. The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native, has played in 22 matches with 21 starts to average 2.66 points per set and 2.51 kills per set. At the helm of the defense, MacKenzie Wells has played in 22 games in the libero position. The Fruita, Colo. native averages 4.06 digs per set. Amelia Johnigan leads the team in blocks with 29.0 on the season.

Katie O'Brien holds a 249-183 record in her 14th season as the head coach of the Montevallo Falcons. The Falcons are 16-13 on the season and 7-7 in the Gulf South Conference. Montevallo leads the series versus West Alabama 29-13, defeating the Tigers earlier in the season, 3-1.

Evelina Teran leads the Montevallo offense, averaging 4.24 points per set and 3.73 kills per set. Casey Hendrixson leads the defense with 406 digs on the season to average 4.67 digs per set.

Jon Moseley is in his second season as the head coach of the Alabama-Huntsville program. He led the Chargers to 7-2 and 3-1 in the league in his first season. UAH is currently 19-8 and sits at 11-3 in the GSC. The Chargers are 32-13 against the Tigers, defeating UWA 3-1 earlier in the season.

Molly Presnell leads Alabama-Huntsville in scoring, averaging 3.32 points per set and 2.59 kills per set. Shayla Libby leads the defense with 363 digs on the season to average 3.90 digs per set.
