Tigers Handle Carver Bible in 77-22 Home Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The Tigers wrapped up non-conference home games with a 77-22 win over Carver Bible College Saturday evening in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. UWA improved to 4-1 on the season.

"We were able to give all of our young ladies a chance to play," UWA head coach Rusty Cram said. "We also got some great looks, which is going to be huge for us down the road. I am very pleased with their effort tonight. I thought we closed the door in the first quarter, and were able to take it over from there."

Bria Dent scored 18 points to lead the Tigers' offense. The Birmingham, Alabama native also had three rebounds. Ella Felkins scored 13 points. Lauryn Lilly added nine points. Naelyn Rios chipped in eight points and had two steals. Jala Williams led with four steals and added four points. 

"Bria is Bria. She is going to be where the ball is," Cram said. "She is always going to excel. I am very proud of her. Everyone had a good ball game. I saw some pretty plays out their tonight." 

"I am vey proud of Ella," Cram said. "She came off the bench to have double figures, and she played very hard. I am very pleased with that. Ella has been a great addition for us."


UWA had a big night when it came to rebounds. The Tigers collected 42 total rebounds, 17 offense and 25 defensive rebounds. Justyna Butler collected seven. Rios, Dent, Lilly, Tazsa Garrett-Hammett, Zoe Watts, Jada Golden, and Augusta Arnold each had three. Felkins, Williams, Rose Smith, and Payton James each collected two boards to round out the rebounds for the Tigers.  

With 5:58 remaining in the first quarter, UWA went on a 9-2 run then held the Cougars to only six more points to close out the quarter with a 24-8 lead. UWA won the second quarter 20-4 to take a  44-12 lead at halftime. 

Coming out of the break, the Tigers dominated the third quarter 17-4 and won the fourth quarter 16-4 to claim the 77-22 victory over Carver Bible. 

As a unit, the Tigers shot 50.8 percent (31-of-61) from the floor, 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from behind the arc, and 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from the free throw line. UWA turned CBC's 33 turnovers into 44 points. UWA also won in bench points with 35-2. 

Jemila Bennett led Carver Bible with eight points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. 

UWA limited CBC to 20.5 percent in field goals (9-of-44), 5.6 percent (1-of-18) from the three-point line, and 42.9 (3-of-7) from the free throw line.

The Tigers hit the road and head to Mobile, Alabama for their next game on Tuesday, November 23. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. against Spring Hill College in Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
