AUM’s Golden Goal Lifts Warhawks Over Tigers in GSC Championship Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - It was a heartbreaking loss for the West Alabama men's soccer team in the first round of the GSC Championship Tournament. Auburn Montgomery's golden goal closed out the match 1-0 in double overtime and brought the UWA men's soccer season to an end Sunday afternoon at AUM Soccer Complex in Montgomery. 

Multiple shots were taken and both teams displayed strong defensive performances which resulted in a scoreless match, ending in a 0-0 tie.

The golden goal came in the 108th minute of the second overtime period when AUM midfielder kicked the penalty goal for the Warhawks and closed the match out with a 1-0 victory over the Tigers.

Auburn Montgomery outshot West Alabama 12-6. The Warhawks fired off five shots total in overtime, while the Tigers did not take any. AUM had the advantage in corner kicks, taking six, compared to UWA's four. 

Two red cards, three yellow cards, and 32 fouls were called in the matchup. The Warhawks were called for 17, while the Tigers were called for 15 of them.
