Women’s Basketball Takes on Shorter and West Georgia

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama women's basketball team battles two Gulf South Conference teams this weekend. The Tigers host Shorter on Saturday, Dec. 18. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. UWA then has a quick turnaround and heads to Carrollton, Georgia to take on West Georgia on Monday, Dec. 20 with a tip-off time at 1 p.m. 

Heading into the weekend, West Alabama is 7-3, 1-1 in GSC play. Shorter brings an 1-5 overall record to Livingston and are 0-4 in the conference. This will be the 13th meeting between UWA and SU. In the latest meeting between the two teams, the Tigers defeated the Hawks 82-76 in Rome, Georgia. 

Tazsa Garrett-Hammett and Bria Dent are leading the Tigers. Garrett-Hammett is averaging 13.9 points per game, shooting .551 from the field. The LaGranage, Georgia native collects 6.1 rebounds per game. Dent is averaging 13.8 points per game. The Birmingham, Alabama native is leading in rebounds, averaging 9.8 per game. The junior guard has also made 25 steals.

Jala Williams leads in assists and has dished out 40. The junior point guard has also made 22 steals. Jada Golden follows Williams with 22 assists. 

The Hawks' offense is led by Jasmine Gaines. She is averaging 18.5 points per game, while Tiara Lewis is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game.

West Georgia heads into the weekend with a 3-4 overall record and is 1-2 in GSC play. UWG takes on Albany State on Saturday, Dec. 18 before the Tigers battle the Wolves on Monday, Dec. 20. 

Guard Siera Carter leads the Wolves' offense, averaging 15.9 points per game. Jaylin Austin leads in rebounds, averaging  8.3 a game.
