Tigers Open GSC Play With Win Over MC

CLINTON, Miss. – West Alabama men's basketball team defeated Mississippi College 70-60 in Gulf South Conference action inside A. E. Wood Gymnasium in Clinton, Mississippi on Thursday night. West Alabama improved the winning streak to five games and improved to 6-1 on the season, 1-0 in GSC play. Mississippi College dropped to 2-4 on the season and is now 0-1 in the conference. 

Shardarrion Allen recorded a double-double with 15 points while collecting 11 rebounds. Te Smith scored 12 points. Justin Allison and Kavan Hill added 11 points. Kortrijk Miles chipped in 10 points. Allison also had five rebounds and six assists on the night. 
As a team, the Tigers went 25-for-42 (59.5%) and from beyond the arc the Tigers were 3-of-14 (71.4%). From the free throw line, the Tigers were 15 shots on 20 (75%) for the night.  
 
The Choctaws went 22-for-43 (51.2%) from the field and went 5-for-15 (33.3%) from three-point line. From the free throw line, the Choctaws went 11 for 14 (78.6%).  
 
In the first half, Mississippi College started the game on an 8-0 run, and Smith ended the run by knocking down a three-point shot.  
 
Closing the first half, the Tigers held the lead, 32-30, after Mississippi College made a jump shot.  
 
Miles hit a jumper with 10:18 left in the second half to go up 49-41 in the game. The Tigers were in control for the rest of the game to claimed the 70-60 victory over the Choctaws.  

Tradavis Thompson led Mississippi College with 14 points and two rebounds. 

UWA returns to action Saturday, Dec. 4. The Tigers face Delta State in a GSC matchup with a tip-off time set at 4 p.m. in Cleveland, Mississippi.
