LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama women's basketball team returns to the court to host two Gulf South Conference games this upcoming weekend. The Tigers host West Florida on Friday, Dec. 31 with a tip-off time of 4 p.m. UWA will then battle Valdosta State on Sunday, Jan. 2. Tip-off time is set for 2 p.m. in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
Heading into the weekend, the Tigers are 9-3 overall and 3-1 in GSC play. West Florida brings a 10-1 record to Livingston, and is 5-0 in the conference.
This is the 42nd meeting between UWA and UWF. In the latest meeting, the Tigers defeated the Argonauts 56-51 on February 1, 2020. The first meeting between the two teams was January 6, 2001, when UWA took a 77-74 defeat from UWF.
UWA's senior forward Tazsa Garrett-Hammett is leading the Tigers offense. She averages 15 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. The junior guard Bria Dent is averaging 14.3 points per game and leading the Tigers in rebounds, averaging 10.2 per game.
Zoe Piller leads the Argonauts offense, averaging 17.4 points per game.
Valdosta State heads into the weekend with a 9-2 overall record, 4-1 in the conference. The senior center Kwajelin Farrar leads the Blazers offense, averaging 14.8 points per game. The Blazers battle Alabama Huntsville on Friday, Dec. 31 before heading to Livingston.
West Alabama and Valdosta State have had 19 meetings. In the latest meeting, the Tigers defeated the Blazers 76-67 on February 22, 2020
