Men's Basketball Slips Past No. 22 West Florida

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – All five Tiger starters saw double-digit scoring against the No. 22 West Florida Friday evening. With the effort, West Alabama pulled off a 74-68 upset to remain undefeated at home and improve to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Leading the pack, junior guard Kortrijk Miles had a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds. Other double-figure contributors included Justin Allison with 15 points, Shardarrion Allen with 14 points, Te Smith with 13 points, and Robert Davis with 10.

After rallying back from a slow start, West Alabama was able to hit 26 of 63 (41.3%) from the floor with 6 of 26 (23.1%) in three-point range and make 16 fo 18 (88.9%) at the line.

West Florida (11-2, 5-1) fared better from the floor, hitting 28 of 62 (45.2%), including 4 of 17 (23.5%) from beyond the arc. The Argos struggled to make 8 of 12 shots for a 66.7% showing.

Both teams came on the court with a sluggish start, spending the first 30 minutes of the game neck and neck. Of those first 30 minutes, the two opponents spent 6:26 of it tied, and the Tigers trailed the Argos for 12:47.

West Alabama found its footing with just 12 minutes left in the game. Allison landed a layup and hit the  and-one after a foul, Miles hit a 2-point jumper, and Smith grabbed a three to push UWA ahead 52-46.

The Tigers stayed in the lead for the remaining minutes of the game to continue an eight-game winning streak at home and a five-game winning streak on the season.

UWA returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 2, hosting Valdosta State inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
