Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- The University of West Alabama men's soccer team held off Lee University to record a 1-0 win. The game was played at a neutral site in Huntsville, Alabama and will not count as a Gulf South Conference match.Â
"It feels fantastic to hit the ground running with a win and a clean sheet," said West Alabama head coach Ross Nelson. "We've really made a statement today in beating the reigning GSC champions. I can't fault any of the guys. They ran their socks off from start to finish and battled to the very end."
Junior Maxime Correia scored his first goal of the season at the 23:51 mark off an assist from Richard Lopez.
The Tigers out shot the Flames by a 5-3 margin and won the shot on goal battle, 3-0.
"It's important now we maximize our recovery and move all our focus to our next game against Delta State," added Nelson.
UWA enters GSC play next Saturday, Feb. 20 as the Tigers host Delta State at 4:00 p.m.
