South Alabama Doubles Up on Tigers

MOBILE, Ala. – West Alabama came up on the short end of a pair of exhibition tennis matches at South Alabama on Wednesday, with USA winning the men's match, 7-0, and the women's, 6-1, at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
 
While both matches were exhibitions for UWA, they were not for South Alabama. The Jaguar men improved to 2-3 with the victory. The USA women are now 4-0. 
 
"It was great to finally get on the court and play some tennis," West Alabama head coach Jeff Beaman said. "This was definitely a good wakeup call and now it is time to play some more matches and practice hard.
 
"The women had a lot closer match than the score shows," Beaman said. "It was great to compete against a team of this level to get ready for this weekend."
 
The Tigers host Columbus State in both men's and women's play Saturday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. The Cougar men are the top-ranked Division II team in the country and the CSU women are ranked No. 5 in the nation. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
 
Valeria Arevalo picked up West Alabama's lone victory, defeating Juliette Talieu 6-4, 6-2 in women's No. 5 singles.
